Ostozhenka st., 37/7, building 1, Moscow
Today: 10:00 - 18:00
Built in 1819, this wooden mansion was first owned by D. Fedorov, a titular counselor. Apartments were rented out here, and in 1840, Varvara Turgeneva, mother of the famous writer Ivan Turgenev, moved into the house. The building and its inhabitants were later immortalized in Turgenev’s story called "Mumu," which earned the mansion its unofficial nickname, the "House of Mumu." Since 2009, it has housed the Turgenev Museum. A small, one-storey Empire-style structure, the mansion features a façade adorned with a six-columned portico.
