Round tower with loopholes and a hipped roof. It was built in the XVI century. According to legend, it is the tower that started the construction of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. It is the only tower of the Kremlin ensemble built of white stone. The tower is also associated with several legends. According to one of them, the name of the tower refers to an incident that took place here during the raid of the Astrakhan Tatars. When the Tatars approached the walls of the Kremlin, they were seen by an ordinary Nizhny Novgorod woman. She heroically killed some of the enemies with her koromyshl, and they, frightened by the Nizhny Novgorod temperament, retreated from the city.
