The cathedral was erected in 1860, before that there was a church, which was burned down by lightning. In the 1920s the church was closed, and in 1942, during the German offensive, it was partially blown up. After 10 years the first restoration works began. The most extensive restoration was carried out in the mid-2010s: on the basis of archival data were able to accurately recreate the painting of the temple, crosses, bells. Now it is a five-domed temple in the Russian-Byzantine style, where the faithful can touch the relics - the Donskoi Icon of the Mother of God and the ark with holy relics.
