New Tretyakov Gallery

The decision to build a new building of the Tretyakov Gallery was made in 1956 in honor of the museum's 100th anniversary. The project was conceived as a continuation of the ensemble of Neskuchny Garden and Gorky Park and was realized only by 1983. The four-storey building has an elongated shape along the bank of the Moskva River, and the area of its exhibition spaces is more than 12 thousand square meters. The permanent exposition occupies the upper level: 37 halls contain the largest collection of Russian art of the XX century. The other floors host temporary exhibitions, lectures and conferences, while the first floor is also home to a creative workshop, a souvenir store, a café and a tour desk.
