The main building of Moscow State University was built on Vorobyovy Gory in 1949-1953 according to the project of Boris Iofan, Lev Rudnev, Pavel Abrosimov, Sergei Chernyshev and Alexander Khryakov. This is the tallest of the seven Stalinist high-rise buildings. According to the original plan, a monument to Mikhail Lomonosov or Vladimir Lenin was going to be erected on its top. But, as in other high-rise buildings, a spire with a star was eventually placed at Moscow State University. On the wings of the main building are the largest clocks in Europe: the 4.13 meter minute hand and the 3.7 meter long hour hand move along the nine-meter dials. The majestic building is decorated with sculptural compositions, and observation decks are located on the 24th and 32nd floors.
