Tsurikov — Naryshkin City Estate

The complex of historical buildings, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, is a federally protected cultural heritage site. The main structure was built in 1790, while the central house was built in the 17th century and was severely damaged during the 1812 fire and later rebuilt. In 1820, the estate became the property of Decembrist Mikhail Naryshkin. It later hosted prominent cultural figures, including writers Ivan Turgenev and Alexander Ostrovsky, poet Afanasy Fet, and composer Anton Rubinstein. Today, the estate is one of the venues for the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. The central house’s façade is decorated with a Corinthian portico, central arched windows, and stucco. Remarkably, the 17th-century vaulted cellars, original floor layout, and late 18th-century lobby design remain intact. The property also retains two side wings and a stone fence adorned with blind arched niches.
